NEHS Induction on 9/20/23
Activities Choice Board
In order to remain in good standing with the Langley chapter of the National English Honor Society, members must attend an event displayed in the center of the choice board, as well as participating in one of the activities displayed in the outer boxes of the choice board below
- Choose 1 event you will attend
- Choose 1 activity you will participate in for the year

Activity Option One: Pen Pals Around the WORLD
-
Students will send a letter every two weeks
-
Each student will take a picture of their handwritten letter and upload it on the corresponding PPAW forum: https://www.langleypenpals.com/
-
Press ^ for further details
-
The content of each letter will be reviewed once uploaded to ensure that it is appropriate for the academic setting
-
Students will be able to comment on their pen pals letters
-
Limited to 5 comments per student per letter to ensure that the conversations occur in the letters, not the comments
-
Students should refrain from posting personal information in their letters, for their own safety
-
While the letters of other students are visible, students should not view letters of other students, as it is a breach of privacy
Activity Option Two: Tutoring
-
Tutors will help students in elementary/middle schools this school year
-
Video calls will be with the same student each week and will last for a duration of 30 minutes
-
Tutors are expected to complete a form after the session explaining what was accomplished during tutoring that week
-
Signing up is on a first come first serve basis, since the number of students available for tutoring is limited
Activity Option Four: Scholarship Contest
-
Participating in the NEHS Common Reader Scholarship Contest will count as an activity for the year.
-
The Common Reader for the 2020-2021 school year and the text that will be the basis for the required scholarship essay will be The Nickel Boys, by Colson Whitehead.
-
The essay must be a maximum of 850 words and answer one of the prompts posted to the NEHS website on November 2nd

Activity Option Three: Adopt a Grandparent
Expectations:
-
One handwritten letter a month
-
The letters should be engaging--introduce yourself, include your experiences in quarantine, and ask them questions!
-
Drop off finished letters on time and pick up letters at Lindsay Muangman's house in Langley Oaks (we'll give you the address later)
-
Signing up is on a first come first serve basis, since “grandparents” are limited
More details and sign up sheets for these events will come later since they are in 2nd semester, but you will eventually chose one of these mandatory events:
-
Poetry Slam
-
Shakespeare’s Birthday
-
Attending their chosen virtual event is mandatory for all members
